This was the first time. Her heart was in her throat, fear had almost crushed her to pieces but with a soft thud she landed on the grass lawn. She didn't dare move an inch. That thud was probably too tiny to even wake an ant but she had to be sure. Absolutely sure. After what seemed like an eternity, she slowly walked to the gate, her bag slung across her chest, sandals hanging from her fingertips. 'Now for the gate', she thought, 'That's going to creek, oh god!'. Closing her eyes she said a little prayer, took a deep breath and opened her eyes- and there he stood, grinning like a fool. Rolling her eyes she passed her sandals and bag over to him and climbed the gate, cringing every time it swayed on its hinges. She sat on top of the gates. 'Just jump', he prompted.
Deep breaths.
Deep breaths.
With one last heave of air, she jumped -
And the gate rattled on it's hinges - definitely not a tiny sound!
She stood there, heart paused, breath paused, almost dead.
'What the fuck are you waiting for, ruuuuuuunnnn'
It took a minute to shake out of it but then they were running, running like their life depended on it. And at the next lane, they turned and stopped, panting like dogs. They peeped from the corner. All houses were still silent. Dead like the air around them. Silent and shadowy in the dim moonlight.
And then they laughed. And laughed and laughed and laughed.
'Shushhh.. let's go', he whispered, and nodding her head she followed. Walking lightly, she walked up to his motorcycle and climbed on behind him.
' This is crazy!! Stupid also, cause we could go out at anytime in the day. Wherever we like. You are crazy for making me do this ', she giggled.
' It's not the same,' he kick started the bike and with a gentle purr of the engine they took off.
'It's not the same as this late night drive. I stay out all night, pass out on Akhil's couch or go wherever I like but you need a week's poking and prodding to get a late evening with the girls. So it's high time you stop being such a goody little boring piece of shit and break some rules. Tonight I am gonna take you around the city, we are going to the beach till the police comes chasing for us to get out and then at the crack of dawn I am dropping you back home and if anyone asks, I am you boyfriend'
She rolled her eyes and laughed. 'No one had better see', she said fear bubbling deep within her. But the cool night air, the city lights and the moonlight bury it deeper within her and she sighs. She could get used to this feeling. She has never felt this.... Free.
'You'll be alright baby sister', he whispered into the night.
But she didn't hear him. She was already lost.
Intoxicated by the night.

Love this one! ❤
